Woman's neck with highlighted pain area.

Most Homeopaths know this remedy for hormones.

Menopause.

PMS.

Labour pains.

Mood swings.

It’s one of those remedies that tends to get pigeonholed into women’s health, which is understandable because it has earned a strong reputation there.

But recently I was reminded that remedies don’t always read the textbooks.

A woman came to me with persistent pain across her shoulders and upper back.

Not from an injury.

Not from lifting something heavy.

Not from poor posture at a computer.

It was a deep aching tension that stretched across her shoulders and into her neck. It had been bothering her for months and wasn’t responding to the things that would normally help.

Massage provided temporary relief.

Stretching helped a little.

Nothing seemed to get to the root of it.

As I listened to her story, however, the shoulder pain didn’t seem like the most important symptom.

She spoke about feeling emotionally overwhelmed.

Like she was carrying the weight of everyone around her.

Her thoughts would race at night.

She felt burdened by responsibility and found it difficult to switch off.

There was a tension in her mind that mirrored the tension in her shoulders.

That’s when a remedy came to mind.

Not because of the shoulder pain.

Because of the whole picture.

And that’s where Homeopathy often surprises people.

Many people are looking for “the remedy for shoulder pain”.

But Homeopathy doesn’t usually work that way.

The same shoulder pain might call for completely different remedies in different people.

One person may need a remedy because their pain started after grief.

Another because of overwork.

Another because of suppressed anger.

Another because of hormonal changes.

The location may be the same.
