I work with people around the world, and it always fascinates me to see how many people - particularly in the USA - are affected by mould toxicity. As many of you know, I’m based in New Zealand but I work with clients internationally online.

Mould toxicity seems to be a problem particularly in the USA, and I did a bit of research to find out why. I discovered that mould is especially common in the USA due to a combination of factors: humid climates and heavy rainfall, building materials like drywall that absorb moisture, tightly sealed homes that trap dampness, central air systems that can spread spores, frequent flooding or water damage, and a general lack of awareness about hidden mould in indoor spaces. Together, these create ideal conditions for mould to grow and affect health.

Mould exposure is more common than most people realise. It isn’t just the black spots on bathroom tiles or damp corners of your home - mould spores can float in the air, settle in carpets, furniture, or even HVAC systems, and quietly affect your health over time.

Why mould is harmful

Mould produces mycotoxins, chemical compounds that can affect multiple body systems. Long-term exposure can impact your:

  • Immune system, making you more prone to infections

  • Nervous system, leading to brain fog, headaches, and mood changes

  • Respiratory system, causing sinus issues, coughing, and wheezing

  • Digestive system, resulting in bloating, nausea, or irregular bowel movements

  • Skin, sometimes triggering rashes or eczema

Certain people are more sensitive: those with pre-existing allergies, chronic illnesses, children, older adults, or anyone who spends long periods in damp environments. Even low-level exposure over time can create persistent symptoms.

Signs of mould toxicity

You might consider mould as a factor if you notice:

  • Constant fatigue or low energy

  • Brain fog or memory issues

  • Headaches or migraines

  • Digestive upset (bloating, nausea, loose stools)

  • Respiratory problems (congestion, wheezing, persistent cough)

  • Skin irritation or unexplained rashes

  • Mood changes, anxiety, or low motivation

  • Increased sensitivity to smells, chemicals, or foods

Case study: Emma’s recovery

Emma had been struggling with fatigue, brain fog, headaches, and digestive issues for months. She had worked with three other Homeopaths previously, and no one could figure out why well selected remedies weren’t helping as they should. She had almost given up on Homeopathy altogether, until a work colleague mentioned she’d been working with me and was getting great results (thank you Becky!).
